For a few users, v6.2.1 crashes or hangs on launch. If this happens to you, please let our support team know, drag the Applications > Screenwriter 6 folder into the trash, and download and reinstall the previous version (6.0.10) by clicking here.
A secondary problem may occur as a side effect of installing Screenwriter 6.2.1. Installing Screenwriter 6.2.1 may disable Dramatica Story Expert (v5.0.6). Download and install the pre-release version of Dramatica Story Expert v5.2.0 from the support site and Dramatica SE will run again.

Installation Instructions

1. First, quit out of Screenwriter completely if you have not done so already by clicking Screenwriter > Quit Screenwriter.
2. Click on the Download button on this page.
   
3. Once the download is done, you can find the MovieMagicScreenwriter62_BETA.dmg file in your Downloads folder (or wherever you downloaded the file).
4. Double click on the DMG file to mount it on the desktop. You will see a Screenwriter Installer volume icon on the desktop.
5. Inside of that volume, double-click on the Install Screenwriter icon.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the install. If prompted for a password during installation, this would be the password you created when setting up your Mac computer.

In some cases the installer may ask you to click the 'Upgrade' button to install. In these cases, go ahead and click 'Upgrade' to complete installation. Once the installation is complete, you can locate the program in the /Applications/Screenwriter 6 folder on your hard drive.

Magic Screenwriter Software

• New spell checker and integrated thesaurus based on the Apple OS X spell checking system.
• New, high-quality Final Draft Import that lets you import Final Draft 8 and 9 .fdx files into Movie Magic Screenwriter. Most of your Final Draft formatting will be preserved.
• You now have the option to save your documents in one of two formats: Screenwriter 6.0's current file format (.mmsw) or the new XML file format (.mmx extension).
• iPartner ran into problems in Apple's release of OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) and 10.10 (Yosemite), because Apple removed older Internet transport protocols that iPartner required. iPartner has now been revamped to support the newer Internet communication protocols.
• AVID TEXT export has been set to the same format as PLAIN TEXT EXPORT (according to AVID, this is all they interpret).
• Added Screenwriter XML (.mmx) and Screenwriter 6 (.mmsw), so the user can comfortably go between .mmx and .mmsw formats.
• Corrected: When you click on the mic in the Chat window you get an Exception Thrown -201 error message. Disabled and hid the audio option in iPartner (voice chat no longer supported).
• Fixed a bug where Scene Headings and Shots might appear at the very end of the printed page if they were immediately followed by non-printing notes or outline styles. If you are working in a locked script that is affected by this change, we've added a new Format > Element Styles > Page Breaks preference to use old behavior.
• Corrected a crash that would occur if you had zoom scaling set to exactly 50% in a LOCK SCRIPT, then scrolled to the top of the document, then tried to scroll up beyond the top of the document.
• Cosmetic change to the Break Action and Break Dialog sections of the Format > Element Styles > Page Breaks.
• Corrected: Labels of the controls in the Element Styles window will randomly turn different colors.
• Corrected: Typing a closing Parenthesis shows as corruption in document. (this only occurred if the preference 'Parentheticals are Separate Elements' wasn't checked).
• Corrected: Bookmarks do not display when viewing the PDF in Mac Preview. When exporting to PDF using the program's built-in command, the bookmarks get created, but they do not include scene numbers like they do in the Windows version.

• Corrected: When you attempt to open a file sent through iPartner, you get a message saying 'Client closed with unknown error 1!' and the session disconnects.
• Corrected: “Unable to start iPartner, your computer does not have the correct networking software installed.” when trying to use iPartner on OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).
